i love ppl who dont go outside (as in like literally do not do outdoors stuff and dont know much about their local animals and ecosystems) being into Cryptids like theyll literally just see a deer doing normal deer things like “Oh my god. Holy Shit. Holy Fuck. That isnt a deer. Thats something Else.. these mountains are so old… who knows what the fuck this thing is. Im shaking”

significant subset of tiktok was apparently shaken by a video of a deer standing around with the heavy shadow and tall grass giving a
(fairly obvious) illusion that it has unusual proportions

im sorry i cant get over this its literally just a fucking deer with weird lighting

Hi! I just wanted to say thanks for all your kind words on the devo hand of guidance drawing I did, it really made my day! I'm glad you liked it :D

It absolutely slaps. That picture provides a whole story of what happened to that character and also the gold hands with blue background 👌

how dare you question the amazing method of farming that gives us so much food by simply killing the soil and leaving lands barren without maintaining the resources that make it work in the first place.

last year i got 1800 bushels of corn by killing the soil, as opposed to before when i only got 1200 by not killing the soil. surely i can simply keep killing more soil

wym there’s only so much soil. that’s an externality and therefore none of my concern

well here’s the thing, under normal circumstances without human intervention soil recovery can take a long long time. with human intervention, such as mulching, cover crops (that you then turn into mulch), seeding with beneficial fungi, etc, soil buildup can be massively boosted. we can be a positive force instead of a negative one. we just have to start doing that

We literally already pulled off a 10-year turnaround by getting a company to dump a lot of orange peels in an area.

Good point! here it is:

people always blast right past the “if we continue with current practices” and go straight to “this is inevitable”

Iceland is the only dark green country I can see on here, and honestly I wonder how much the naming system has to do with that.

In Iceland there are no family names that are carried on through different generations. Your last name here is just your parents name + dóttir (daughter) or son. Like if your dad’s name is Jón then your last name is Jónsdóttir or Jónsson. And obviously people don’t change their name with marriage here. You are Jónsdóttir or Helgadóttir ect. for life.

A looooot of families I knew in the U.S. (including my own family) whether or not they wanted to admit it favored their sons over their daughters because “he’s the one who’s going to carry on the family name, he’s the one who’s going to carry on the family legacy”. It’s to the point of where there’s recorded evidence that in natural disasters, in cultures with patrilineal family names people are more likely to prioritize their son being fed and surviving over their daughter because of wanting the child who will “carry on the family legacy” to be the one to survive.

I feel like this has to be the biggest reason Iceland is dark green, there are no “family names” or “family legacies” to pass down through the boy’s last name. I’m not going to say it’s because Iceland is just a really gender equal culture or w/e because contrary to what the international press is always saying there’s still a crap ton of misogyny here. But the simple act of not having to worry about “family names” or “family legacies” can do a lot to prevent favoring sons over daughters.

Hey can we talk about how zoox’s last name is anthellae, so his full name is a type of algae that has a symbiotic relationship with coral???
